Craft :

The craft group is continuing to meet despite the unexpected departure of its leader, Joan Beddoes, to Wiltshire, just before Christmas.  At the early January session, it was agreed that we would continue to work on developing our skills with specific crafts while completing ‘one off’ projects from time to time.
The group will still meet in the Spires café in Haven House in Truro (by the Park and Ride bus stop) from 2 - 3.35pm.  However, it will only meet once a month, on the fourth Monday of the month.  Therefore, the next two meetings will be on Monday 22 January and then Monday 26 February.
We have chosen crochet as our general craft for the next few sessions and our aim is to produce squares worked with different stitches and patterns which will be assembled into a rug for a care home.
We would be pleased to welcome new members with or without crafting skills!  The venue is warm and welcoming and the only cost involved is to buy a coffee or tea from the café during the afternoon!  If you wish to know more please contact me, Brenda Wallace 01872 864588.

Moira McCullough has now given up the leadership of the group but we would like to thank her for starting and running  the group for many years, her help and advice was much appreciated. Kath Rowe (01326) 373403

Please note that the Beading Group will close down for the Summer months of June, July and August, recommencing in September on the first Tuesday.

Love your sewing machine!

Has it lurked unhappily in the cupboard under the stairs for the past fifteen years?  Have you forgotten how to thread it?  Scared of breaking it?  Lost the manual?

Why not dust it off and bring it along to our group, held in the South Room of Perranwell Centre on the first and third Tuesday mornings of the month from 9.30 – 12.30.  You will be made very welcome in our friendly and supportive group.  Many members were nervous beginners when we started in September 2016, but are now confidently tackling various types of sewing, and producing some lovely work.

We have made cushion covers, shopping bags, oven gloves, sunhats, zipped toiletry bags, pencil cases, Christmas decorations, cases for our cutting mats and sewing accessories, and our latest project is a travel jewellery case.

We are not a quilting group but we have covered some appliqué and patchwork designs which we’ve used as bag and cushion fronts; and recently several members started on dressmaking.

Most of the patterns are my own design and I photograph and write the patterns, which are free, so we have no issues with copyright.  I email these in advance of our meetings for members to print, so they know what fabric and notions to bring.  I provide refreshments which are available all through the sessions, for a contribution of 50p.

If you’re interested to give our group a try, please ring me first for a chat on 01209 860899.  I have Call Guardian on the phone, so you’ll be asked to say your name and press the hash key before the phone rings for me, but please don’t be put off – it’s only there to deter unwanted marketing calls!
